Jesus died on the Cross, executed by the Roman Authorities. Following his trial, he is condemned to death, flogged, and dragged through the streets to the place where he will die. Nailed to the cross, and lifted up from the earth, he is taunted and mocked by the crowds. Despite this, he prays, looks for the needs of his Disciples and Mother, and promises on of those executed with him that he would see him in Paradise that day.
It is through Jesus death, Christian's beleive, that we are saved from our sins and faults. It is for this reason that we venerate a cross in remembrance of Jesus' Death. We hear the narrative of that death read. Though a solemn and sombre event, we know that these events are for our salvation, and so we call the day "Good", and the liturgy is not entirly without a note of triumph.
St John tells of the death and burial of Jesus.
