Mass of the Lord's Supper and Watch

Date Thursday 1st April
Time 7:30 pm

Preacher Fr Stephen Caple

On the night before he died on the Cross, Jesus celebrates the Passover with the Disciples. The Passover meal recalls God's actions in freeing the Israelites from Slavery in Egypt. Jesus takes these symbols, and applies them to what he is about to do, and commands to continue them, in remembrance of him.

Before that meal, Jesus put on a towel, and washed his Disciples feet. He was showing in action what he had taught in words, that to be a leader was to be servant of those who are lead.

After this meal, Jesus and the Disciples went to the Garden of Gethsemane, on the Mount of Olives. After some time in anguished prayer, Jesus was arrested, having been betrayed by Judas Iscariot, one of the Disciples.

At this Mass, we keep Jesus' command to remember him, feet are washed, and then watch is kept in a symbolic garden with Jesus in the Consecrated sacrament.
