Palm Sunday is the beginning of the commemoration of the events leading up to Jesus' Death and Ressurection on Good Friday and Easter Day. The provious Sunday, Jesus rode into Jerusalem on the back of a donkey, with shouts of praise and the waving of palm branches. The Prophets had fortold that the Messiah would enter Jerusalem in this manner. In celebration of this, we begin with the blessing of palm fronds, usually woven into the shape of a cross, and process into the Church.
Once in the Church, our attention focuses on the events leading up to Jesus' Death on Good Friday. We read one of the Gospel accounts of these events, and remember them in the rest of the Celebration of the Mass.
